The case for carpet
Carpet is warmer underfoot, quieter, provides better thermal insulation, and is softer and safer — particularly important in bedrooms and on stairs. Quality carpet in a bedroom can last 10–15 years with reasonable care. Carpet is typically less expensive than LVT for bedroom areas when fitted cost is compared.
The case for LVT
Luxury vinyl tile (LVT) is waterproof, easy to clean, and handles heavy foot traffic and pet claws better than carpet. It is the practical choice for kitchens, bathrooms, hallways and utility rooms. Modern LVT designs replicate wood and stone convincingly.

Bedrooms: carpet almost always wins on comfort, warmth and cost. Living room: personal preference — carpet if you prioritise comfort, LVT if you have pets or children and want easier cleaning. Hallways and stairs: carpet wins for safety (non-slip) but requires more maintenance. Kitchens and bathrooms: LVT every time.
Can a carpet fitter also fit LVT?
Many professional carpet fitters also fit vinyl and LVT. When requesting quotes, ask specifically whether the fitter covers LVT — getting both done together on the same day saves disruption and often gets you a better price.
